Clacton-on-Sea Essex: Above is a fine picture of the beach and promenade in Clacton, Essex (properly called Clacton-on-Sea). Clacton is a popular seaside resort which attracts plenty of visitors in the summer time. Formerly the site of a Butlins Holiday Camp, Clacton still has its traditional pier, which was built in 1871. Butlins in Clacton was the first place I ever took a holiday without my parents, I remember going with my friend at the time, John Curran.
