Novelda Spain
Novelda Spain: Novelda is a city of Valencia (Spain) located in the interior of the province of Alicante, in the region of the Middle Vinalopó. Known for its production of grapes and trade in spices and marble, the town had 27,104 inhabitants in 2010.
Novelda History: Around Novelda there are numerous archaeological sites, the oldest dating back to Neolithic, which bear witness the early occupation of the area. Conquered by the Castilians , between 1243 and 1252 Novelda was part of the Kingdom of Murcia. In the late thirteenth century, in 1296, Novelda was incorporated in the Kingdom of Valencia.
The year 1366, Peter the Ceremonious , King of Aragon, gave the manor to Matthew Gornaya. In 1393, his son, John I, and his wife, Violante, named Pedro Lican Maca lord of the manor and castle. This house was, the year 1448, the barony of Novelda. Later it was owned successively by the Rocamora family, the Marquis of Terranova, and the Marquis de la Romana .
During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the population continued to prosper, so that by 1510 it had 230 families in 1595 there were 2115 inhabitants, of which most were Moors. The expulsion of the Moors in 1609 caused a serious demographic and economic crisis from which it would not recover until well into the eighteenth century.
In 1611 Novelda was awarded a letter of settlement, in 1901 Novelda was granted the title of city.
Novelda is between Elda and Aspe about 25 minutes from Alicante airport.
