Villajoyosa - The Ancient Walls

Villajoyosa Walls: Fine image of the old city walls of Villajoyosa, a historic town to the north of Alicante on the Costa Blanca, Spain. Villajoyosa is perhaps best known for its brightly coloured houses on the seafront, which were apparently coloured to enable fishermen to recognise their homes from out at sea. The walls in the picture date from around the 16th century.
The history of Villajoyosa goes back much further than these walls, way back to the Bronze Age when ancient Iberians first settled there.
